We hold these truths to be self-evident...
Today, as we celebrate another anniversary of the formal adoption of America's Declaration of Independence, I recall these words from that revered document:
My prayer is that we can one day bring ourselves to elect a government that will once again secure this most basic unalienable Right for the most innocent among us.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…As I recall these words, I am reminded that 230 after they were written, we still deny Life to over 1 million babies every year.
