Another Example of the Intolerant Left

In Sunday's Miss USA beauty pageant, judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay celebrity blogger, asked finalist Carrie Prejean, Miss California, the following question:

Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?

As part of Prejean's answer, she said, "I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman."

Her answer drew boos from the audience, and according to Hilton himself, probably cost Prejean the title of Miss USA.

What a sad commentary on the state of our society!

First of all, why is a self-proclaimed "queen of all media" celebrity blogger chosen as a judge of the Miss USA contest? Secondly, why is he allowed to ask an entirely political question on a topic in which he, as a gay man, has a personal interest; and thirdly, why is this girl essentially eliminated from the running for the crown because this judge doesn't agree with her personal opinion on the subject?

Prejean has stated that she believes that her answer cost her the title of Miss USA, and Hilton himself later admitted to Larry King that Prejean's answer hurt her. "She was definitely, either the frontrunner or one of the top two contenders," Hilton told King.

King then asked, "Did you think that it (Prejean's answer) hurt her?"

"Absolutely," Hilton responded, "and I think a lot of the judges did."

Even though it probably cost Prejean the title, she believes that she did the right thing by being true to her beliefs. "I have no regrets," Prejean said. "By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I'm glad I stayed true to myself."

For his part, Hilton has called Prejean a "dumb bitch" and said that she has "half a brain." I'm sure that Hilton's status as a "celebrity blogger," qualifies him as an intellectual giant, but don't those comments seem just a little harsh when directed toward someone simply because she doesn't agree with you, especially when they are coming from someone who claims that all viewpoints should be accepted and respected?

This made me think of the "Columbine Girl" who died professing her faith...

There is a cost for expressing our faith in Jesus... And a much greater reward.
