Blog is on a feeding tube.

My first post on this blog was inspired by Terri Schiavo. It seems somewhat appropriate, then, to say that this blog is not brain dead; it's just on a feeding tube.

Some have been wondering where I've been. The answer is that I've taken a second job. Unfortunately, it doesn't pay; it's volunteer. However, it still requires 2-3 hours of my time Monday through Thursday evenings, about 5 hours on Friday evening, and anywhere from 2 to 8 hours on Saturday. This is in addition to my regular job (the one I actually get paid for).

In short, I haven't had much time to write, and when I do have time, I usually don't feel like thinking. I feel more like falling asleep in the lazy boy.

Anyway, like I said, the blog is not brain dead. I'm going to try to keep it alive by posting at least once every other week or so, maybe more if I get really inspired. If and when my schedule slows down, I hope to pick it up once again.

So thank you to all who have read my blog in the past, and please don't pull the feeding tube. Check back now and then.

Finally, to my fellow conservative bloggers: Keep up the good work that you've been doing!

Oy! You're lucky you make it all the way to the Lazy Boy before you fall asleep.

Keep the food and water coming, and we'll keep checking.

So where do you volunteer?

I'll keep checking back. Your thoughts are always worth reading.

Chris,

I don't want to give the impression that it's anything altruistic. I'm not volunteering all those hours at a food kitchen or anything like that.

I'm a volunteer assistant coach for Northwestern High School's boys' varsity basketball team. I was a varsity coach for ten years and coached at various other levels for ten years before that. I haven't coached for the past six years, but now my second son and my nephew both play for Northwestern. I wanted to put my previous experience to some use, so I talked to the head coach. He already had a person in mind for the paid varsity assistant position; however, he still wanted me on the staff if I could do it on a volunteer basis. So here I am.

Chris, thanks for checking back on my site, and I look forward to continuing to read Malott's Blog.

I completely understand the feeling and I don't even have a second job!

I hope you enjoy the coaching work as well as the special time with your son and nephew. I'll certainly keep checking back in eager anticipation of more posts.

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

When will basketball season be over? Not being much of a sport, I don't know these things.

Do a good job helping with the team, and then come back to us!

Skyepuppy,

It depends on how well we do in the state tournament. The first round of the tournament is the week of February 26 – March 3, so we will play at least until then.
However, we hope to be playing for a state championship, and the state finals are played on March 24th. Right now our record is 8-1 and we're ranked 5th in the state in our class, so we're hopeful that we'll still be playing on the that date.

Thanks for asking.
