Obama To Meet With Our Enemies

Ok, so the meeting between Obama and Ahmadinejad hasn't really happened - yet. But Senator Obama promises us that as President he would meet with our enemies, even the lunatic ones. Maybe the senator should learn from history just how successful meeting with lunatic leaders can be.

In September 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain met three times with Adolph Hitler in an attempt to negotiate an agreement that would prevent another widespread war in Europe.

The third of those meetings ended with the Munich Agreement in which Great Britain and France agreed to allow Germany to not only annex the Sudetenland area of Czechoslovakia, but to also allow Hitler’s army to occupy the area and to expel all non-Germans living there. In return, Hitler promised that he would not invade the rest of Czechoslovakia and that the Sudetenland would be his "last territorial demand" in Europe.

In convincing his government, as well as the government of France, to approve of these terms, Chamberlain had stated of Hitler that "In spite of the hardness and ruthlessness I thought I saw in his face, I got the impression that here was a man who could be relied upon when he had given his word."

After the Munich Agreement had been finalized, Chamberlain returned to London and told the British people, “I believe it is peace for our time. Go home and get a nice quiet sleep.”

In March 1939, the German Army seized the rest of Czechoslovakia.

Negotiations with Chamberlain had only emboldened Hitler, who later said, "Our enemies are little worms. I saw them at Munich."
